Kalgan Queen River CruiseNo trip to Albany is complete without a cruise on the award winning Kalgan Queen. Starting at Emu Point you meet the Pelicans and often get to see the Giant Rays through the glass bottom of the boat and thats before you even start! The Captain will point out all the points of interest on the cruise. Gaze through bottom at the remains of an old wreck, then past Green island which was Western Australias first vegitable garden at the start of the settlement in 1827 and is one of only four permanent Pelican nesting grounds in WA. Look up as Sea Eagles often swoop down to catch a fish near the boat. Sometimes they see Dolphins and Seals as well.Listen to the poems of the Kalgan from you Captain as well as a full comentry on the history, Anzac, wildlife and so much more. You can learm more about Albany in four hours tha some locals do in a life time. Next into the Kalgan River which is said to be the oldest continually running river in the World.
The National ANZAC Centre TourThe award winning National Anzac Centre is one of Australia’s most important cultural pilgrimages. Located within Albany’s heritage listed Princess Royal Fortress, the centre overlooks the actual harbour from which over 41,000 men and woman departed Australia for the Great War. Immerse yourself in the Anzac Legend and follow personal stories through state of the art technology, multimedia and historic artefacts. Prepare to remember, learn and explore.
ALBANY'S HISTORIC WHALING STATION
Albany's Historic Whaling Station is the only experience of its kind in the world. The Cheynes Beach Whaling Company was the last whaling company to cease operations in Australia (closing in 1978). Explore an intact whale processing factory and whale chasing ship - fully restored and ready for you to discover. The Historic Whaling Station opened in 1980 (known then as Whale World) - it is now home to an interactive museum on whales and whaling. The whaling factory guided tour, is an informative overview of the stations operations, and then discover the many additional exhibits at your own pace.
Torndirrup National Park.
Visit lookouts at both The Gap and Natural Bridge provide outstanding views of the Southern Ocean and the coast from Bald Head to West Cape Howe. Visitors to The Gap can venture onto a new accessible viewing platform 40 metres directly above the surging seas - a spectacular sight.
